Breast Lift and Reduction - Cosmetic Surgeries to Bring Your Breasts' Glory Back

The bosoms are considered among the most valuable assets when it comes to defining the beauty of a female. Everything matters; be it the shape, size or firmness of the breasts. Unfortunately, many factors affect the appearance, shape and size of the breasts. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain or loss, ageing, ill-fitted bras; are all factors that contribute to unshapely breasts.

Heavy, large and sagging breasts lead to too much of pressure on the chest and not only cause stiff neck, sore shoulders, skin irritation, posture problems and an aching back, but a poor self-esteem as well. Women with very heavy racks have known to suffer from poor body image and low self-esteem.

Procedures such as breast lift and reduction help restore the size, shape, firmness and the position of the breasts. They can help women get the lost glory back to their breasts.

Breast lift plastic surgery

A breast lift is also known as mastoprexy. This procedure addresses sagging breasts commonly seen with decreased breast volume, drooping and stretched areolas. Most women face the problem of sagging breasts after breast feeding or after massive weight loss.

During a lift surgery, general anesthesia is used and incisions are made in breasts around or below the areola. The sagging breast is lifted and reshaped by removing the excess skin and breast tissue which results in repositioning the breasts to a higher level and relocating the nipple and areola. The incisions are then sutured recreating their youthful and perky appearance.

The benefits of this procedure are improved shape, symmetry and projection of the breasts. The disadvantage is that over a period of time, the breast lift may diminish due to gravity and ageing. If a subsequent pregnancy occurs, the benefits of the breast lift may be diminished. A lift leaves scars on the skin which can be hidden with a well fitted bra.

Breast reduction surgery

Also known as reduction mammoplasty, this procedure is performed to reduce the size of very large or heavy breasts. Breast reduction surgery removes the extra tissue, fat and skin from the breasts; thus reducing its size and improving the shape and nipple position. Breasts that are out of proportion to the body are embarrassing, as they are too large and disproportional to the height and weight of an individual.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about three to five hours. Results are permanent unless a female has sudden weight loss or goes through pregnancy.

The ideal candidate for a reduction surgery is someone who has breasts that limit physical activity, or lead to back/neck/shoulder pain because of the weight or lead to shoulder indentations from bra straps.

Breast reduction and lift

Many women have this dilemma whether reduction would result in uplifting the breasts and vice versa. The important point here to remember is that the purpose of boob surgery- whether breast reduction or breast lift is to bring the breasts in proportion with the body and make them look perky and youthful.

So, if your breasts are too large in size, the surgeon would reduce the tissue and also lift them to bring them to proper size and place. A lift is thus invariable part of breast reduction surgery.

However, if they have only sagged due to age/ breast feeding; the surgeon would not reduce the tissue but only lift the breasts. If the volume is inadequate, lift may be combined with augmentation to give good volume and shape.
